Catch the Devil
For over three decades, Paul Skalnik roamed the Gulf Coast lying about who he was. He pretended to be a fighter pilot, a wealthy oilman, a criminal defense attorney, an undercover agent, and a terminal cancer patient, duping dozens in the process. When he was finally caught and arrested, the lying continued, now from jail, where he passed himself off as an informant and falsely implicated an ongoing parade of fellow inmates through "confessions" he made up.
Reporter Paula Colloff recounts Skalnik's exploits in this account of a serial liar who caused harm to countless people.
